Teacher Standard Seven:

Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community

7.3 Engage with the parents/carers

Throughout placements, I ensured I contacted the families of the students I taught to introduce myself and open myself for discussion. This was either by letter or dojo/seesaw, depending on what methods the school used.

During my PEX1 and PEX2 I engaged more with the families of my classes as students were collected from the classroom and I had the opportunity to engage in conversations after the school day regarding students. Unfortunately, during my PEX3 and PEX4, COVID restricted the face-to-face contact with families.

Attached below is a report from my PEX4 with comments regarding communication with families.

7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

Throughout my PEX2 on a Special Education class, I was required to work with many professionals. Throughout the week I worked with multiple Student Learning Support Officers, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Pediatricians and families.

Engaging with each professional ensured the students were receiving the best education possible, but it also benefited myself as if I was unsure about something I had a plethora of knowledge accessible.
