Teacher Standard Two:

Know the content and how to teach it

2.3 Curriculum, assessment and reporting

Throughout all planning and teaching I incorporate assessment to design learning sequences. During each lesson I ensure formative assessment is evident to ensure students are understanding the delivered content and making adjustments where required.

I use many formative assessment strategies such as, student self assessment strategies, exit tickets and informal quizzes, to name a few.

As demonstrated in the lesson plan below, students are allocated time to complete a formative assessment task.

2.6 Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

To ensure future based learning is incorporated into the classroom, I always use some type of ICT throughout the day.

During my last placement, each student had an iPad to use during class. Therefore there was a strong focus on using ICT in the classroom. For example, during a science lesson, students recorded two substances and explained if they stretched/didn't stretch (see attachment below). As this was an Early Stage 1 class, the use of ICT was still basic, although they were working up to using ICT more.
